Kaiyue International Youth Host is a good establishment for the weary traveller to rest his head. Reconstructed on the former site of a Christian Baptist Chapel, the hostel carries a charming air of old German architecture, and is handily located a short walk from the main train station on a road off Zhongshan Lu in the centre of Qingdao city's concession area. A good budget choice for backpackers. Features a great little bar and is very close to the sea.
A breath of crisp sea air for anyone emerging from China's polluted urban interior, Qīngdǎo is hardly old-school China - parts of town resemble Bavaria - but its effortless blend of German architecture and modern city planning puts Chinese white-tile towns to shame.
One of China's most comfortable and prosperous cities, Qingdao is a terrific destination for an historical tour, weekend away, or business venture! It is famous for its delicious fresh seafood, Tsingtao Beer (China's most famous brand), and its colorful panorama of red-roofed houses and green trees overlooking an azure sea. The city has many spaces of parkland and forest, and is close to the Laoshan Scenic Area which has its own beautiful mountain landscapes and waterfalls. While tourism has long been a major draw for the city, Qingdao's scheduled hosting of the XXIX Olympic Sailing Regatta in August 2008 is expected to bring a torrent of visitors while also increasing awareness of the city around the world.
